We need more harlots in the churches!

One of Jesus’ ancestral mothers, Rahab the harlot, spoke some of the most profound words of faith recorded anywhere in the Bible and this is now the time we need to be reminded of them:

“…and she said unto the men, I know that Jehovah has given you the land, and that the fear of you is fallen upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the land melt away before you. For we have heard how Jehovah dried up the water of the Red Sea before you, when you came out of Egypt; and what you did unto the two kings of the Amorites, that were beyond the Jordon, unto Sihon and to Og, whom you utterly destroyed. And as soon as we heard it, our hearts did melt, neither did there remain any more spirit in any man, because of you: for Jehovah your God, he is God in heaven above, and on earth beneath.” Joshua 2:8-14.

Disciples of Jesus, I appeal to your hearts and pay earnest attention to what Rahab said to the spies after God’s people had wandered around the mountain for 40 years wringing their hands in fear of the giants in their promised land!

40 years of faithless fear in the hearts of God’s people went into battle against 40 years of fearful faith in the hearts of non-covenant related giants! 1 Samuel 17:26

My goodness brethren; the uncircumcised, non-covenant related Gentiles had more faith in the power of Jehovah then His own people who heard His voice and saw His presence day and night overpower their enemies and provide for their needs hour-by-hour.

No wonder Rahab the harlot was in the seed line of Jesus and is listed among the faithful of God who played a part in shaping God’s history, Hebrews 11:31.

What did that harlot say again? Just maybe we should learn something from her and constantly declare the name of our Jesus in our towns, cities, and nations so that Satan’s strongmen will fear us because we know the Eternal Godhead like the harlot did?

The faithful Rahab said:

·         “I know”, non-doubting, unchallenging faith. (We need that today).

·         “has given”, Hebrews 11:1-6 in action. (Of course, we know that passage so well don’t we?).

·         “the fear of you”, they hadn’t met any Hebrews yet, but God’s presence was evident. (Just like it His presence is with us right?)

·         “That all…melt away before you”, not one person among the Gentiles considered themselves capable of being victorious over God’s people. (Just like it is with us right?)

·         “as soon as we heard it”, they heard and their hearts melt with fear. (People today need to hear about Jesus, as the King of Kings and Lord of Lords in such powerful preaching and teaching that their hearts will melt and they will cry out, “Men and brethren what shall we do?” Acts 2:37-39).

·         “your God, He is God”, they made comparisons between their gods and Jehovah; His deeds proved He was who He claimed He was – the God of heaven and earth! (Is that what we believe about our Father and are we sharing it?).
