The Church of Scotland backs gay priest

The General Assembly of the Church of Scotland has voted in support of the appointment of a gay priest.

Reverend Scott Rennie was appointed to a congregation in Aberdeen despite thousands of church-goers signing a petition opposing the move.

His supporters say that if the church had blocked his appointment it would have amounted to illegal discrimination.

After the vote one of Mr Rennie’s supporters, Brian Kerr, read a statement on the priest’s behalf:

“The Church of Scotland is a community of faith gathered around God’s living word and God calls people of many different hues and colours in to his service,” he said.

“In a broad and national church there is more than enough room for us all.”

Reverend Sharon Ferguson of the Lesbian and Gay Christian Movement says she is delighted by the news.

“At last there has been some sense that’s been shown here,” she said.

“What we actually have is an upholding the decision by the Church to appoint somebody because they are the right person for the post, because they are the person that they feel has been called by God.”

Chinese writing proves Bible is God’s Word

May 14, 2009

Over 5000 years ago the Chinese written language was created and that same written language is still used today. The Chinese characters were in existence at least 1000 years before  Genesis was written down by Moses as he was inspired by God.

It would appear that these characters came into existence when one of Noah’s son’s or one of his son’s descendants moved to the east following the tower of Babel confusion of languages. This is concluded from the Chinese character for “ship” in the presentation below.

Each Chinese character is pictographic in composition and reveals its meaning in story form.

It is important to note that written Chinese depicts people in several ways: (a walker), (a mouth), (an upright individual),  (a walker glowing), which is also used for “fire”.

Also, when reading Chinese it is read from right to left and so the story of the origin of the character and its meaning is define from right to left.

Chinese for SHIP:   (eight)  (mouths) in a   (boat).

Genesis 7:13 “And on the very same day Noah and Noah’s sons, Shem, Ham and Japheth, and Noah’s wife and the three wives of his sons with them, entered the ark.”

1Peter 3:20 “who formerly were disobedient, when once the Divine longsuffering waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared, in which a few, that is, eight souls, were saved through water.”

上帝Chinese for GOD ABOVE:    (The emperor) who is (above).

Isaiah 40:22: It is He who sits above the circle of the earth, and its inhabitants are like grasshoppers, who stretches out the heavens like a curtain, and spreads them out like a tent to dwell in.”

Chinese for GOD SPEAKS: (Expressions) from (God).

Psalms 33:6: “By the word of the Lord the heavens were made, and all the host of them by the breath of His mouth.”

Chinese for DEVIL:  丿(Alive) in a (garden)  (walks) a (deceiver).

Genesis 3:1: “Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, “Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?”

Chinese for CREATE: 丿(Alive) from the (earth) came a  (mouth) who (moved).

Genesis 2:7: “And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.”

Chinese for FIRST: 丿(Alive) from the  (earth) came a   (walker).

Genesis 2:7: “And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.”

Chinese for GARDEN:  From the (earth) came a (mouth) that (walked) and another (walker) came out of his left side and they were(enclosed) in a garden.

Genesis 2:8 “The Lord God planted a garden eastward of Eden, and there He put the man whom He had formed.”

祖先 Chinese for ANCESTOR:  丿(Alive) from the  (earth) came a   (walker) who   (also) came from (God).

Genesis 1:26 “Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”

Chinese for HAPPINESS AND SUCCESS:   (One)  (mouth) in a (garden) with  (God).

Genesis 2:15 “The the Lord took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to tend and keep it.”

西Chinese for WEST: In China when someone dies, they say they have gone to the west. Why? This character answers that question:   (One)    (walker) entering into an  (enclosure) which is seen in the above character for garden.

Chinese for FLESH:  A  (hand) entering into an (enclosure) to take out a (walker).

Genesis 2:21-22: “And the Lord caused a deep sleep to fall on Adam, and he slept; and He took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh in its place. 22 Then the rib which the Lord God had taken from man He made into a woman, and He brought her to the man.”

Chinese for WIFE: Chinese refer to their wives as their inside man. This character for wife shows a  (hand) entering into an  (enclosure).

Chinese for FORBIDDEN:    Before two (trees) stands  (God).

Genesis 2:16-17 “And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, “Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; 17 but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”

Chinese for TEMPTATION:  Under 广 (cover) near   (two trees) resides the (devil).

Gensesis 3:1-5 “Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, “Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?” 2 And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden; 3 but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.’” 4 Then the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die 5 for God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”

Chinese for COVET, LUST:  Before two   (trees) stands a (woman).

Genesis 3:6 “So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate.”

Chinese for BEGIN:   (Something) going into the   (mouth) of a (woman).

Genesis 3:6 “So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate.”

Chinese for CONVERSE:  火火 (Two glowing people) (talking) to one another. From the time they ate the fruit and sinned, (man) is written without a glow upon his body.  When in the presence of God, God’s glory comes upon mankind, (2 Cor. 3) as it did with Moses. Sin removed the glory of God (Romans 3:23) which came upon the man and the woman when they came into God’s presence daily.

Genesis 3:7-8 “Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves coverings. 8 And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden.”

Chinese for TO HIDE:  (Almost) behind a (tree) is a (body).

Genesis 3:8 “And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden.

Chinese for COME:  Hiding behind a (tree) are two 人人 (walkers).

Genesis 3:8 “And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden.

Chinese for DISTANT, FAR:  From the (earth) came a (mouth) that (walked) and another (walker) came out of his left side and they were (sent) far away.

Genesis 3:23 “Therefore the Lord God sent him out of the garden of Eden to till the ground from which he was taken.”

Chinese for PUNISHMENT:  (A sword) placed behind  (two)  (walkers).

Genesis 3:24 “So He drove out the man; and he placed a cherubim at the east of the garden of Eden, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to guard the way to the tree of life.”

Chinese for HOLY SPIRIT: Coming from above like (rain) are three 口口口 (beings) who work (signs and wonders).

1 Corinthians 12:4-6 “There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. 5 There are differences of ministries, but the same Lord. 6 And there are diversities of activities, but it is the same God who works all in all.”

Genesis 1:26 “Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”

Chinese for RIGHTEOUSNESS:     (A lamb) over (you).

John 1:29 “The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!”

Are there 100 disciples out there to create change?

May 10, 2009

While preaching and teaching in England a week or so ago I found some time to visit the grave of John Bunyan the author of “The Pilgrim’s Progress”. His timeless classic is a must read for all believers who seriously want to take up the challenge to move on from mere church membership to discipleship.

Bunyan was converted from a life of public debauchery in 1648 and joined the Baptist Church of Christ in Bedford, England in 1653. He began preaching in 1655. Five years later he was imprisoned for 12 years for failing to desist from public preaching as decreed by Charles the Second, King of England. John Bunyan died in 1688.

Nearby the graveyard where John Bunyan is buried is the church building where John and Charles Wesley preached nearly two hundred years ago. John Wesley wrote the following words, which have remained with me ever since I first read them 42 years ago, “Give me a hundred men who love God with all their hearts, and fear nothing but sin, and I will move the world”. Despite being shunned by the religious establishment of their day, the Wesley brothers preached in the fields and revival followed in their corner of the world.

Today’s world needs to be moved; so where are committed disciples like Bunyan and the Wesleys? Where are men and women, who want to love God with all their hearts? Where are the men and women who want to stand against sin in their own lives and in the lives of those about them, and say to the world – enough is enough, regardless of the cost? Where are the men and women whose life’s agenda is God’s and not their own? Surely there must be a hundred out there in the world?

I am of the persuasion that “God’s hundred”, if I may take the liberty to call them that, could indeed move the world if they existed. I am sure they do, but are they aware of each other? If such lack of identification is the case, I would like to see that change. I would like to see the 100s become aware of each other town by town, city by city and nation by nation in order that they link up and live out what they already are in God’s eyes – the most powerful influence in the world, Ephesians 1:15-23.

For a long time now I have been pregnant with this vision of God’s hundreds changing their nations and after my recent time in the UK I have been disturbed in my spirit with the urgency to do something about it. For a long time now I have had thoughts on how to birth the vision and I would like to correspond with anyone who would like to discuss it’s becoming a reality with me.

Those who would like to correspond with me about it need to realize that such a challenge to move the world calls primarily for radical changes with regard to yesterday’s religious traditions and today’s contemporary, worship orientated, doing church environment where entertainment is paramount and teaching of God’s word insignificant. Such a challenge to move the world, town by town, city by city and nation by nation, calls for a life laid at the throne of Christ emblazoned with the words of Isaiah 6:8, “Here am I! Send me.”

The challenge we face is to realize that God hasn’t called us to focus on the art of creating the most appealing worship service in town but rather, He’s called us into His kingdom and the war between it and Satan for men’s souls, (Matthew 12:24-30; 1Tim 1:18; 2Tim 2:4) And yet, despite this urgent call to spiritual warfare, we are not training up kingdom warriors who are acquainted with God’s armor or the sword of the Spirit – we’re training up frolickers to play before the golden calf of contemporary or traditional church. Sadly, we have replaced the invincible kingdom of God with today’s contemporary gatherings or yesterday’s traditional religion, both of which originated with men! Surely it is time to begin acting like the invincible kingdom declared by God, founded by Christ and empowered by the Holy Spirit and start overwhelming the world before the world overwhelms us!

The Fruit, the Gifts and the Glory

May 7, 2009

“All have sinned and fallen short of God’s glory”, Romans 3:23

In their sinless state Adam and Eve, like Moses, could well have been endowed with God’s wondrous effulgence when He communed with them daily, Genesis 3:8.

Sadly, though, when sin transpired God’s glory may well have vanished from their bodies, only to be seen again momentarily on Moses, on Mount Sinai, in the tabernacle and in the temple never to appear again until Christ’s transfiguration and the Day of Pentecost where it entered the upper room, divided and came upon all who were present, Acts 2:1-4.

The glimpsed, fading glory which Moses displayed and covered with a shawl is now manifested in the ministry of righteousness, which exceeds in intensifying glory in the sons of God, 2 Cor. 3:9. It can be observed in God’s living temple – you and me, Ephesians 2:21-22, 1Cor. 3:16-17.

Yet to observe manifestations of God’s glory one has to look in the most unlikely places. It is not readily observed in assemblies, prayer meetings or today’s worship gatherings. Nor is it seen in the manifestation of spiritual gifts – this is not to say that these are to be set aside; indeed not!

So where is the glory of God manifested? It is manifested in the ministry of righteousness, which is fueled by the willingness of Christ’s disciples to allow the Holy Spirit to exercise His fruit in their lives, Galatians 5:22-23. How so?

Matthew writes in 25:31-40, that in ministering in the fruit of the Holy Spirit unto the desperate needs of others we actually minister unto God and Christ in them. So in ministering righteously to others, who came from God and were made in His image (Romans 11:36), we draw near to Him in them and thus His glory emanates from them toward us and then through us to the world about us, 2 Cor. 4:6.

As the living temples of God let us therefore be seen ministering the fruit of the Holy Spirit in righteousness to the unlovable, the lonely, the lost, the untouchables, the destitute and the desperate for in so doing we draw near to God in them and His glory returns upon us for the world to see. This in no way suggests we cast off the charismata of the Holy Spirit, but rather we manifest Christ’s love first and foremost as Paul reiterates in 1 Cor. 13 and in so doing, the charismata will find their true and rightful place in the ministry of righteousness and Holy Spirit engendered worship will result, (Acts 4).
