TOLERANCE? It is NOT taught in the Bible!

June 9, 2009

I have been sitting on this article for some months now, just meditating on the subject. My conclusion is; Christians are not instructed by the Lord anywhere in the New Testament to be tolerant. As a matter of fact, tolerance is only mentioned once in the New Testament and when the Hebrews acted tolerantly toward others during Old Testament times it always ended disastrously for the whole nation.

However, I am hearing more sermons and reading more articles, both secular and Christian, about how Christians must be tolerant. Why should we be tolerant? Jesus never taught tolerance! As a matter or fact, the only time He made reference to tolerance was when He said that it would be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrah in the judgment of God than for those who reject the preaching of the gospel, Luke 10:10-16, Matthew 10:12-15. It is not mentioned again in the New Testament writings.

Tolerance is akin to compromise! It is the nature of believers who make this world their home, rather than seeking after that which is to come; whatever it costs. Tolerance produces cowards. Tolerance is but the last step before devastation of all that is good and righteous in any land.

In the Christian life, there is no grey or tolerance; there is only black and white. If you have questions about morals, actions, thoughts, decisions and you search the word of God you will always find clear answers. You may not like what you find, but you will find it. God has never once utter revelation that allows His people to take on compromise or a worldly, murky grey lifestyle in His kingdom. God is not a God of confusion; Satan is the author of confusion. Tolerance has its origin in the wisdom that is from beneath; not in the wisdom that is from above. Tolerance and compromise are the authors of vile deeds and not peace. James wrote of such compromise and what it gives birth to in his letter in, 3:10-18.

What did Jesus teach? Did He teach us to tolerate sin and sinners? No! He said call them to repentance. Did He teach us to tolerate our enemies and those who despitefully use us? No! He taught us to love our enemies and pray for those who despitefully use us. Did He teach us to be tolerant of the false doctrine of demons that is currently seeking to wipe His kingdom from the face of the earth? No! He taught us to warn them by preaching about the coming judgment of God and to snatch as many as possible out of the lake of fire.

At this point I am reminded of this little verse: “Some like to live within the sound of a church or chapel bell, but I want to run a rescue shop within a yard of hell”. Believers, stop compromising. Preach repentance to all for the kingdom of God has come, regardless of the consequences. Stop being tolerant; your Saviour, Teacher, Master and Lord was never tolerant! Love is never tolerant, Hebrews 12:1-13.

So, if Jesus was never tolerant, what then is being taught today from many pulpits and in many Christian books and articles? Compromise disguised as tolerance, that’s what. Why though? So that “doing church” believers avoid the discomforts that will follow if they stand up for the black and white, uncompromising word of God rather than the comfortable, compromising, worldly, grey philosophy of men.

God is involved in politics; like it or not!

June 6, 2009

If I was not a Christian and did not know that God is overseeing politics at the highest level, I would be bewildered by what is happening on the world’s stage at present. We have a talking head fresh out of political nursery school leading one nation. Another running around with every topless young girl he can round up for a photo shoot. Another whose political crew is corrupt and is abandoning ship and leaving him to scuttle the vessel. Another who is a devout atheist and very proud of it.  And then there is “smiley” who is soon to be known as “angry” heading up my nation. And behind them all there are the puppeteers pulling the strings to fulfill their own agendas.

Wow! What a mess! How can God possibly be involved with such chaos? Simple folks; immature believers who love “doing church” rather than “being church” have gone to ground and thus the kingdom of God is failing to stand up and be counted so, waiting in the wings is the collapse of godless Western lifestyle; courtesy of God Himself. There can be no other possible reason for the existence of the type of leaders we now see prancing around on the world’s stage. The Old Testament is full of examples of how God raised up such leaders for His own ends. And as for these current Western leaders? Why, there’s not a profound statesman or leader or renown among them. They are simply buck passers who kowtower to minorities and megalomaniac puppeteers with satanic, one world government agendas.

The prophet Daniel had this to say about God’s involvement in the affairs of mankind and their political leaders: “And He changes the times and the seasons; He removes kings, and sets up kings; He gives wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that have understanding”, Daniel 2:21, He also said of the kingdom of God that would be given to the disciples of His Son: “…and the stone that smote the image became a great mountain, and filled the whole earth”, Daniel 2:35. And also, Daniel 2:44 “And in the days of those kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom which shall never be destroyed, nor shall the sovereignty thereof be left to another people; but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand forever”.

The kingdom of God has not been taking its rightful place in the affairs of mankind lately and for that reason such woeful Western leadership exists in order that troubles and persecution will come on the remnant of God’s kingdom to stir them to action in order to get them back to God’s mandate to seek and save the lost. It is time to stop doing church! Jesus preached, “Repent, for the kingdom of God is coming!” The apostles preached, “Repent, for the kingdom of God has come!” We better return to calling the world to repent and be converted (Acts 3:19-21) not, “Come to church and be entertained”, for we are the kingdom of God and the world needs to know who they are dealing with.

Disciples, our King Jesus is not the soppy, light skinned, blued eyed, Sunday school hero with lambs in His arms! He’s the King of Kings and Lord of Lords who rides upon a white stallion with a war sword going forth to conquer, and He is the judge of the all the living and the dead, Revelation 19:11-16. And He has called us to be His ambassadors of reconciliation and has granted unto us a kingdom that cannot be shaken or moved out of place, Hebrews 12:28-29.

So let’s be what we are supposed to be and challenge this world with evangelism on a massive scale, calling all to repentance before the Western governments (the current gods of western populations) collapse and the enemies of all righteousness storm in with their doctrines of demons to fill the void left by those who will fall away from the “doing church” faith they thought would sustain them. Jesus – raise up your prophets, teachers and evangelists to stand in the ever-widening gap!

Overhead scripture projection is dangerous to spiritual health!

June 4, 2009

I was just born again and hungry for the word of God. One day I heard a sermon, and it aroused my interest. I went to the preacher and asked him if he could give me some scripture references to a portion of his subject matter. He said to me, “Go into my library and on the second shelf to the right of my desk you will find a Bible concordance and in it you will find all the information you need.” In other words, “Study to show yourself approved!” Though I was shocked by his response, I understood his intent, and today I am grateful for his forthrightness. It forced me to read and study the word of God, rather than rely upon him and his knowledge.

Recently, I have noticed in most congregations in the countries I am fortunate to preach in, that when I refer to a particular Bible passage to be studied or read, folks either look to the right or the left of the pulpit. At first I was somewhat bewildered by it, but then I caught on – they were reading the Bible passages from the overhead screens behind me. Few opened their Bibles to read along with me as I preached verse-by-verse.

I will be as blunt as I have ever been in any article I have written; this is downright lazy and extremely detrimental to a believer’s spiritual health!

Recently, at the Bible College where I teach, I asked the 20 or so students in my class if any of them had read the entire Bible. One student raised her hand. I then asked if anyone had read the entire New Testament. Three students raised their hands. This class was composed of young adults, middle-aged adults and elderly adults. Shameful stuff!

Today, I find few people bring a Bible to assemblies and fewer open them during the message. How can a believer grow in faith if they are not familiar with the word of God? How can believers disciple others into God’s kingdom if they cannot refer to passages in God’s word? How can believers find solace during personal troubles if their faith is not in their knowledge of and familiarity with the word of God? How can disciples preach or teach the word of God publicly if they don’t know how to find passages, either by memory of the chapter and verse or its location on a page in their Bible? Thirty minutes of overhead projection of scripture on Sunday robs disciples of the most essential daily ingredient they need – spiritual development based on the use of the living, active word of God on the printed page.

Let’s remove scripture from overhead screens and force disciples back to bringing their swords (in case you have forgotten, the word of God is the Sword of Spirit, Eph 6:17) so they can once again learn how to swing them in the spiritual battles, which confront Christ’s disciples every day. Reading God’s promises on a screen doesn’t help hardly anyone remember where it is in the Bible when it is needed; and boy is familiarity with the written word of God needed today!
